Clover

White clover is one of the most common lawn weeds in North Central Washington. A green, low-growing perennial plant, it can be recognized by its three-leaf shape and round white blossoms – especially in late spring and early summer. Clover thrives in full sun and low-nitrogen soil, though here in Central Washington it will even grow in well-fed, shaded lawns. It has the distinctive ability to grow symbiotically with Rhizobium bacteria that help with nitrogen-fixing in the soil, which helps its growth.

In Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Quincy and Chelan, some people might not mind its intermingling with grass. However if left unchecked, it can grow into large clumps, making the lawn look patchy. Its flowers attract bees, who could sting children, visitors, or those walking barefoot in the grass. Additionally its seeds can remain in the lawn for years, awaiting the right conditions to sprout and regenerate a colony in the lawn. Call us today to craft a plan for your lawn and garden.
